Introduction to Me

Hi my name is Sara Ouellet and I am a senior here at the wonderful Cal State San Marcos. I am hoping to graduate after this semester if I can pass the current 19 units I am taking so wish me luck!! I have lived here in San Marcos for almost four years now although I did not grow up here. I grew up about 45 minutes away in the lovely Orange County town of Tustin and Aliso Viejo. My K-1st education was done at a private Catholic school called Little Miracles. After 1st grade my family moved to Aliso Viejo where I stayed until I moved to San Marcos for college. I attended Wood Canyon Performing Elementary from 2nd to 5th grade then went to 6th grade at AVMS then once a new Middle School opened near my house finished Middle School off at DJAMS. My entire High School I attended Aliso Niguel High School until I graduated in 2006. That next year I started going to Cal State San Marcos and for the last four years I have been taking classes here to hopefully graduate with a BA in Liberal Studies. Then after that I hope to get into the Credential program here with hopes of going into the teaching profession.
I used to be very un-technologically savvy. Who am I kidding I am still pretty technologically unskilled. College and increase in technological advancements have helped me to get more knowledgeable but I am nowhere near a professional status. Sadly I am still a PC user. I like PC’s but after owning an IPOD and seeing how much easier and durable Mac’s are it is making me want to transfer over that much more. As far as how much I use technology I would have to say that I use some form everyday whether it be texting on my phone, checking my emails on my laptop, or rockin’ out to music on my IPOD. My PC is old but pretty up to date I use Microsoft 2007 and have power point and excel programs on my PC in which I am familiar with. Technology has begun to rise to levels I never thought it could come to. Who knows what they will think of next?
After carefully reading through the College of Education Mission Statement the most influential part that stood out to me was the portion on promoting “educational equity”. Education is important to each and everyone one of us. We start young we learn we are educated and with that education we hope to build a life and a career for ourselves. But how is everyone supposed to do that when not all children have the same opportunities for advancement. This is the first thing that drew me into this profession. I want to reach out to those kids who don’t have the luxuries to pay for the finest learning education and go to the best schools but hopefully will have an education in which they can use to succeed in life. We spend so much time trying to make those kids who are great even better and don’t spend enough time with those who need a little more help. This is one reason that I was so drawn to CSUSM program. Much of their focus is about social justice and equality in education and I think that is the most important issue in this time and age.
